Yamhill and Carlton are closely tied together (like peas and carrots), both physically along Oregon 47, but also via a shared school district. Yamhill is the first one as you head south on 47 from Gaston towards McMinnville, though you can take Oregon 240 east to Newberg. Yamhill is also where one turns off to go to Camp Yamhill, where many children in the metro area, including Hillsboro, used to go for Outdoor School.
